NATURE IMMERSION — SPRING 2026
(T'SOU-KE) SOOKE, BC
Adventure | Discovery | Caretaking | Collaborative Play
What is Magic Waters Nature Immersion?
Magic Waters Nature Immersion is a nature program in Sooke for children (ages 2–12) and their families.
We meet every Friday to practice nature-based skills, play in nature, and learn how to work together as a team.
OUR APPROACH
The program is designed to be a central element of the village.
It creates a space where the children learn to work, play and be part of a collective.
Nature connects us with the world and is an open laboratory for questions, exploration, and discovery.
Mentors Hold The Space
Mentors are not teachers. Mentors create a space for the children to learn new skills, ask questions, and self-organize into play teams.
Nature's Rhythms
We use the seasons, the weather, the moon cycles, birthdays, the tides and the life/death cycles as inspiration for our sessions.
The Private Domain
We are a Private Member Association (PMA). This means we are a private group of families who have agreed to follow our own community rules and values.
Winning-Happening Culture
We put an emphasis on the type of games we play, aiming to play winning-happening games instead of win/lose games.
"Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them."
— James Baldwin

THE SPRING PROGRAM
Fridays, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm | March 20 – May 22 | 10-WEEKS
This is a seasonal immersion into the elements of Vancouver Island.
We follow the rhythm of nature and the genius of each team member, children and adults.
For the older children (6–12), this is an invitation into mastery, becoming trackers, makers, and guardians of nature.
1Making Fire
Learning patience and focus by making fire with sticks (Friction Fire).
2Birds Language
Learning to listen. We decode bird calls to know when animals or people are nearby.
3Animal Tracking
Learning to read the ground like a book to find where bears, deer, and cougars go.
4Making Rope
Turning "weeds" (Stinging Nettles) into strong, useful rope and string.
5Building Shelters
Using branches and leaves to build a warm, dry "home" in the woods.
6Weaving with Cedar
Learning to harvest cedar bark respectfully and weave it into mats or rings.
7Outdoor Cooking
Managing a hearth fire and safely using tools to cook a meal together.
8Clean Water Quest
Exploring the river and learning how to filter and clean water to make it safe.
9The Big Adventure
A day-long team mission that uses every skill learned in the past 8 weeks.
